21-Day CX Challenge #9:
What Do You Want Them To Say?

Hey again!

In the first 8 missions of our 21-Day Challenge, we've asked a lot of questions of others. Today, we're turning inward.

What You See is What You Get

Three-time NBA champion and five-time all-star Klay Thompson has a ritual.

Every day before a game, he puts on some music -- "Classical... or some nature sounds," he says -- and imagines making shots.

"[I] try to visualize getting to my spots, what my opponent is going to do, so when you come to the game you've seen it before."

Now, I'm not here to tell you that visualizing something in your mind is the secret to making it happen in real life.

But you're more likely to have success when you can identify a specific outcome you want to achieve and then focus efforts toward reaching that outcome.

Today's Mission

Today, I'd like you to ask yourself for three specific things you want your customers to say about you.

These could relate to you individually, or account for your organization as a whole. But the more specific they can be, the better.

To help, here are some things to consider:

  • What do you want your customers to say about the way you make them feel?
  • What do you want your customers to say to their friends about you?
  • At a given point in your engagement with a customer, what specific result do you want them to tell you they got?

This is just a starting point... I encourage you to explore broader and deeper.

As you work through this, write your answers down on a piece of paper. When you're done, place those answers prominently somewhere you can see them.

You should look at these at least once a day, or more if it's helpful. Have a client meeting coming up? Review what you want them to say. Visualize what you can do to make that happen.

Be like Klay.*

*Mozart and nature sounds optional.

PS - We'll be revisiting your list later in the 21-Day CX Challenge, so get those three things down on paper where you can see them. Want to get even more benefit from this mission? Share your list with coworkers and ask for their help, or even ask them to create their own lists. Even Klay Thompson relies on the rest of his team, after all!
